Jo's Pilates

Seated Exercise

I specialise in teaching the Older Adult and provide regular sessions in Residential Homes and 60+ Centres. I am a YMCA/RSA qualified Teacher in Exercise to Music for 50+ and also have over 20 years of experience teaching adults of 80+ in a wide variety of Care homes and Centres.

The sessions I run are mostly seated exercise to music and work on improving mobility, strength, coordination and balance. They also enable the important social aspect of bringing groups together to have fun and laughter which is so crucial for our well being too as we get older, less mobile and may have decreased communication with others. I incorporate the use of some equipment like bands, to increase strength and improve range of movement, as well as soft balls to aid mobility with arthritis and after strokes. I incorporate ball games and throwing and catching exercises to work on motor skills and promote social interaction.

I love teaching these sessions and have learnt so much throughout the years from this wonderful age group and met so many interesting and humorous characters. We always laugh a lot as we exercise and sing along to all the old songs they know and love!

For booking a session at a venue or alternatively if you would like more details of where I currently run sessions, please contact me directly on 07932 795869 or email me at jo_fernandes@hotmail.co.uk
"We retire too early and we die too young. Our prime of life should be in the 70’s and old age should not come until we are almost 100.”

Joseph Pilates

Practising what he preached, Joseph Pilates exercised almost right up until his death at 83 (his perfect posture no match for a 15-a-day cigar habit!).

The longer we live, he believed, the more opportunity we have to improve our health.
